How to connect your taxi company to Chiron in Flanders

Chiron is not a driver app to install on your phone. It is the official central database that receives trip information from your taxi software — and the connection starts on the Flemish government portal.

In short

The operator (legal representative) first registers on the Chiron test environment, passes the credentials to their software or IT provider, sends 10 test messages, then repeats registration in production. The driver works normally in their software — without logging in to the Chiron portal.

Chiron is not a driver app

Since Chiron was introduced, taxi operators in Flanders must send trip information to the central Flemish trip database. Chiron is not an application to install on the driver's phone: it is an official database that receives information from your taxi management software. A connected tool sends this data on behalf of the operator, without the driver having to open the Chiron portal.

The Flemish government states that the operator must send trip information to Chiron, the central trip database.

Who must make the connection?

The Chiron connection must be made by the taxi operator or the legal representative of the company.

If you are a salaried or self-employed driver working for a company, you normally do not create the company's Chiron access yourself. The legal representative does that.

The driver should mainly check that their data is correct in the software: vehicle, licence plate, valid driver card, trip start and end, price and distance. In Flanders, the driver must hold a valid driver card while working.

What to prepare

Before going to the Chiron portal, gather:

  • your electronic identity card or itsme application;
  • your access as legal representative of the company;
  • the BCE/KBO number and official company name;
  • a company email address and phone number (preferably professional, not personal);
  • the name of your Chiron-connected software and, if applicable, your prestataire informatique.

For connection with itsme, the Flemish government explains that itsme lets you identify yourself online securely — with a smartphone, Belgian eID or compatible bank account. See official itsme help

The 3 official steps

The official Chiron page structures registration in three steps:

  1. Step 1 — Register on the test environment

    Register on the test environment (acceptance portal). Copy the access credentials shown after registration and pass them to your prestataire informatique or to the publisher of your Chiron-connected software.

  2. Step 2 — Send 10 test messages

    Send 10 test messages via the test environment: 5 departures (start) and 5 arrivals (stop). In Chiron-connected software, this corresponds to trips started and ended normally.

  3. Step 3 — Register in production

    Once tests are validated, register on the Chiron production portal. Copy the new credentials (different from test) and pass them the same way to your prestataire informatique or to the publisher of your Chiron-connected software to activate real trip transmission.

The official Startersgids guide states that Chiron is a central API (not a mobile app), that access must be requested by the legal representative via eID or itsme, and that the procedure goes through test then production environments.

Role of operator, software and driver

ActorResponsibility
Legal representativeRegistration on test and production portals, retrieval of technical credentials
Taxi software / IT providerOAuth configuration, sending test messages and real trips to Chiron
DriverUse the software correctly: right account, right vehicle, departure and arrival at the right time

The driver does not log in to the Chiron portal during the day. If driver, vehicle and trip data are correct and complete in Chiron-connected software — TaxiGer, for example — it can transmit the required information in the background, without manual re-entry on the official portal.
